Tomorrow, April 15th, will see a large number of Tea Parties across the nation. I will be trying to make it to at least one of the Kansas City Tea Parties, and if I do, I’ll post whatever pictures I can get.
But the big news surrounding the April 15th Tea Parties has been the buzz about leftist plans to infiltrate and crash them. Because when you claim to support free speech and denounce your opponents as fascists and Nazis, the it apparently makes more sense to engage in Brownshirt tactics instead of actual substantive political debate.
The first indication of this was from an anarchist organization (yes, it doesn’t make sense to me either) planning to disrupt the Tea Parties. This effort seemed more interested in counter protests, which for anarchist probably will involve throwing things and damaging property. Kudos to the Jawa Report and Nice Deb for highlighting this.
Left Coast Rebel then brought to my attention a little website of left-wingers proposing to actually infiltrate the Tea Parties. Their goal? To demonstrate the racism of the Tea Parties by staging outbursts of racism. Got that? Upon Left Coast Rebel’s suggestion, I and other bloggers took it upon ourselves to infiltrate the infiltrators and see what we could find out about their plans. Some lulz did ensure, and I got some screenshots up. Props to Left Coats Rebel, Right Ideas, and Wisdom of Soloman for the work that went into this.
Well, now that you’re up to speed, there’s plenty more where that came from.
Left Coast Rebel and Temple of Mut came across some investigative reporting at Free Republic, which resulted in the successful identification of the people behind the Crash the Tea Party t-shirt shop website. Since they live in Portland, I’m not too worried about seeing them about here, and I’m not going to repost their pictures. But I would not be surprised if they showed up in some video posing as Tea Partiers shouting racial slurs, and I would also not be surprised if such video featuring them was widely circulated by the media. We’ll see.
Michelle Malkin has some info on these guys, as well as some other organizers of anti-Tea Party groups seeking to smear and infiltrate the Tea Party. Malkin has a pretty substantial accounting of efforts to smear the Tea Party from the very beginning, including a story of leftist infiltrators that targeted her specifically:
I speak from direct experience about the underhandedness of Tea Party smear merchants. On February 17, 2009 at one of the country’s first tax revolt rallies in Denver, a man approached me amid a throng of bona fide anti-stimulus protesters and thrust a camera in my face. I obliged cheerfully, as I usually do after such speaking events. I later learned from the character assassins at Progress Now, the Soros-backed outfit that just happened to be there and just happened to snap a close-up photo of the interaction, which was immediately disseminated to the local press and to the hitmen of Media Matters, that the man pulled out a sign at the last minute (which I didn’t see until later) sporting Obama’s name with a swastika on it. He held the sign away from me, but in direct view of the Progress Now cameraperson who used to work for CNN.
Malkin’s latest syndicated column also addresses the tactics that the left is employing to infiltrate and disrupt the Tea Party.
New Hampshire Democrats are engaged in a statewide search for liberal activists willing to attend so-called tea parties on Thursday and carry signs expressing racist or fringe sentiments, a Democratic source with knowledge of the effort tells NowHampshire.com.
According to the source, who sought anonymity for fear of reprisals, the Dems’ last minute scramble reflects a growing obsession among party leaders that they need to discredit the tea party movement soon or it will overwhelm them come the November election.
Former Democratic State Party Chairman Kathy Sullivan is heading up the search, the source said. Sullivan has been calling and e-mailing liberal activists trying to get them to attend tea parties in different parts of the state and hold signs denying the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate and make racially disparaging comments to reporters.
“This is Kathy’s [Sullivan] project,” the source told NowHampshire.com. “She is absolutely obsessed with painting the tea party people as racists.”
Similar “crash the tea party” efforts are taking place throughout the country on Tax Day.
If she pulls it off, this won’t be the first time Sullivan has endeavored to manufacture a racist controversy regarding the tea party movement. Last month Sullivan and other Democratic leaders attempted to portray a “white pride” rally in Concord held by a Massachusetts-based white supremacist organization as a tea party. Sullivan was forced to retract her bogus accusation.
Unable to tolerate fellow Americans dissenting peacefully against their government’s policies, the Left has set up a web site — known as “Crash the Tea Party” — encouraging people to pose as Tea Partiers and then “behave in ways which exaggerate their least appealing qualities . . . to damage the public’s opinion of them.”
Obviously, this trick is right out of Saul Alinsky’s playbook.
But it also means that ugly behavior by supposed tea partiers can’t be taken at face value. And it poses a challenge to the integrity of the MSM: Will its members investigate those who engage in disgusting behavior — to discover whether they’re genuine Tea Partiers or actually leftists bent on destroying the reputations of those who disagree with them?
I have little doubt that not only will the mainstream media avoid mentioning the widespread efforts at infiltration by leftist plants, but will actively promote any staged material, even if the participants are identified as plants.
IUSB Vision has some handy etiquette tips for conduct during the Tea Parties, including some great ideas for how to conduct oneself around the press and how to deal with identified infiltrators. Also see IUSB Vision’s guide for identifying plants at Tea Parties – very definitely worth looking at.
Here’s the real issue: the left cannot substantiate its positions and policies when challenged. Instead of engaging in actual debate, leftists resort to the tired and true tactics of the political left, from the SA and Goebbels to Alinsky — slander and silence your opposition any way possible. The key for the left here is to make the Tea Party look as extreme and uncredible as possible, so that they can continue to dismiss the Tea Party without addressing its actual concerns. And the important element to the left-wing narrative about the Tea Party is this: since they cannot find any legitimate examples of racism or violence at Tea Parties, they will manufacture them.
It will be an interesting day tomorrow. I’m curious to see how these protests will play out, what efforts at disrupting them will take place, and how the media will cover them.
