James Randi, that great debunker of anything supernatural, paranormal, religious, or that he just doesn’t like, has announced that he is gay.
Maybe I’m being a bit harsh here — there are still people who live in situations where it is difficult to come out of the closet. Some people fear the loss of friends, the rejection of family, and possible problems and retaliation at a place of employment.
But when you’ve been famous and wealthy all your life, and wait until you’re 70 to be inspired by Harvey Milk and make that big break, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be excited about. I have more respect and concern for a 20-something with ultra-fundamentalist Christian parents and who works at a Christian bookstore who comes out than the Great Randi.
