The Nazis Were Leftists

Van Helsing at Moonbattery takes arms against the biggest political propaganda smear campaign in history: the claim that the anti-capitalist, pro-union, pro-socialized medicine, pro-government-run education German Socialist Worker’s Party was somehow right-wing:

The most impressive example of sleight of hand in the history of propaganda may be the liberal establishment’s alarming ability to pass off Nazis as right-wing rather than left-wing. Nazism and Stalinism were highly similar, rival variants of the totalitarian socialism longed for by progressives. When the Hitler-Stalin pact collapsed, the left was forced to choose between them. Nazis certainly deserved the demonization that followed, though no more than their Bolshevik brethren.

No, it wasn’t right wing. There was nothing right wing about the Nazis, and your attitude demonstrates the problem. Leftists continue to blame the atrocities of the left on the right, and use that as a means of discrediting the right. And it is utter nonsense.

Left wing hate= frenzies environmentalism, animal rights, freakish women’s rights(abortion) supporters,

Right wing hate= anti-hispanic/any race, homophobia, religious fanaticism.

I always thought they were pretty well defined. <_^

And there’s part of your problem – attempting to assign a particular kind of bigotry to a particular political bent. You’re holding to the propaganda in your defense of it.

So when the Democrats slandered McCarthy by calling him gay, were they right wing?
How about that whole support for slavery and Jim Crow laws by the Democrats? And the opposition to the civil rights movement?
Democrat Andrew Jackson and his Indian policy?
Che Guevara hated blacks. Does that means he’s right-wing?
Stalin was responsible for several pogroms against Jews. Was he also right-wing?
Prohibition and anti-drug laws enacted by the left-wing progressive movement were motivated by racism. Are they suddenly right-wing now?
Oh, let’s not forget the eugenics movement, supported by such progressive liberals as Margaret Sanger. She wanted to make abortion easily available so the black and hispanic populations wouldn’t have so many children. Is she right-wing now, too?

The problem as I see it is twofold: 1) When you hear Nazi, the only thing you think of is the Holocaust. Have you ever taken a look at any of their political policies? Because that’s what would designate them as right or left; 2) You have so thoroughly bought the propaganda that hate = right wing that you are actually arguing that certain positions are right-wing because they involve bigotry, and not looking at the actual political positions underlying those positions, or who held them. So you can say that the Nazis were right-wing because they supported eugenics and never think to consider the fact that eugenics was a development of Utopian progressivism, a left-wing movement.

Nazism was fascism, and racism was only incidental to that classification. The fact that fascism is a form of socialism, that implemented a centralized and totalitarian means of government control is what made it left-wing.
