When Food Nazis Strike: The New York Salt Ban

Never underestimate the desire of Progressives to control your lives in any and every way possible. The core of Progressivism is the notion that Progressive are a super-intelligent intellectual aristocratic elite, and therefore they know what’s best for you better than you do, since you are an uneducated, unenlightened, unsophisticated rube. So they will fight to use the force of law to compel you to behavior that they are sure is better for you than whatever you may want for yourself, because their extreme 133tness gives them the right to tell you what to do.

So in New York, we get this:

“No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food for consumption by customers of such restaurant, including food prepared to be consumed on the premises of such restaurant or off of such premises,” the bill, A. 10129, states in part.

The legislation, which Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, D-Brooklyn, introduced on March 5, would fine restaurants $1,000 for each violation.

Yes, that’s right: New York wants to ban salt from restaurants.

It comes down to this: Progressive think you’re not smart enough to make your own health decisions, so they want to legislate their ideas of proper health for you.

Gregory of Yardale at Moonbattery also comments on the story, and helps point out how ridiculous such a ban would be.

What can you expect from people who believe that carbon dioxide is pollution? You know what else they should outlaw? Fire. How many people are going to have to die in fires before fire is outlawed. Fire … bad. It’s science, people!

Also at Moonbattery, Van Helsing brings attention to the latest food to come under fire by left-wing food Nazis: Pizza. By taxing pizza, the rationale goes, people will have an incentive to decrease their caloric intake. (Or find their calories elsewhere, of just lean to make pizza at home.) And of course, a decrease in pizza sales won’t have any negative impact on the economy, since people don’t earn livings by selling and delivering it …
