Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: UK Bans Smell of Cooking Bacon
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Liberalism, National News, Regulation and Big Government, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on Sat 23 Oct 2010
Here’s some more about the nonsensical socialist nanny-state utopia that is Great Britain: a cafe owner has been ordered to remove an exhaust fan because neighborhood Muslims claimed they were offended by the smell of cooking bacon.
A hard-working cafe owner has been ordered to tear down an extractor fan – because the smell of her frying bacon ‘offends’ Muslims.
Planning bosses acted against Beverley Akciecek, 49, after being told her next-door neighbour’s Muslim friends had felt ‘physically sick’ due to the ‘foul odour’. Read the rest of this entry »
Mexicans Seek Asylum to Escape Drug War
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Drugs, International Law and Treaties, National News on Thu 01 Apr 2010
This is what the ridiculous drug war hath wrought. Remind anyone of that Prohibition thing back in the ’20s and the fallout from that? I can understand why my fellow conservatives may want to prevent access to recreational drugs, but anyone who understands economics can see how making these drugs illegal has inflated the profit margin on them so high that people are willing to kill innocent bystanders.
If we legalized drugs in the US, this would rapidly dissipate. This is our fault. Read the rest of this entry »
Michigan Militia Group Raided by FBI
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Media, National News, Radicalism on Mon 29 Mar 2010
A eight people in Michigan with ties to a so-called militia group were arrested on charges of conspiring to kill police officers.
Nine suspects tied to a militia in the Midwest are charged with conspiring to kill police officers, then attack a funeral in the hopes of killing more law enforcement people, federal prosecutors said Monday.
U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said agents moved on the group because the Hutaree members were planning a violent reconnaissance mission sometime in April — just a few days away. Read the rest of this entry »
Bret Baier vs Obama
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Media, National News, National Politics, Obama Administration on Thu 18 Mar 2010
The One appeared on Fox News in an interview with Bret Baier. Of course, the left is convinced that Obama used his powerful eloquence and proved all of his points even in the face of those vile fascists at Fox News. Well, perhaps looking at the actual interview may show something different.
Donald Douglas at American Power is kind enough to link to the video of the interview (I can’t get it to embed), as well as the transcript. Read the rest of this entry »
People Who Buy Green Are Mean
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Elitism and Fads, Liberalism, National News on Tue 16 Mar 2010
Meredith Jessup at Townhall points to an interesting psychological study that indicates that people who practice “green consumerism” tend to be more mean and less sociable to other people:
Canadian psychologists Nina Mazar and Che-Bo Zhong have concluded that people who wear a “halo of green” are less likely to be kind to others and more likely to engage in “selfish and morally questionable behavior.”
This would certainly explain why Al Gore is ok with running up monthly electric bills higher than most people’s annual salaries, all the while lecturing the rest of us on the need to save electricity.
According to Mazar and Zhong’s study, when people practice “green consumerism,” they inflate their own egos for their efforts in saving the planet. These “virtuous” acts–buying organic, for example–”can license subsequent asocial and unethical behaviours,” they write. In other words, people who buy green tend to be stuck on themselves and not very neighborly … Read the rest of this entry »
Harry Reid’s Wife Out of Hospital
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Health Care, National News, Special Interest on Mon 15 Mar 2010
Reid spokesman Jon Summers said the Democratic senator’s wife was with her family and in good spirits. She’s able to walk short distances with assistance and will be staying in Washington, where the couple lives when Congress is in session, Summers said.
I’m sincerely glad that she’s doing okay.
And wow, she’s already walking? That’s amazing that some could sustain that kind of injury and be mobile so soon afterward — especially at her age. I can’t think of any other country in the world that can offer such great medical care.
And Reid wants to scrap it all …
Reid’s Wife and Daughter Injured in Car Wreck
Posted by The Republican Heretic in National News on Fri 12 Mar 2010
Senator Harry Reid’s wife and daughter were involved in a serious car wreck in Washington D.C. Reports indicate that his wife is in serious condition, having suffered a broken back.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s wife and daughter were hospitalized Thursday — the wife with a broken back and neck — after their minivan was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck on an interstate highway in suburban Virginia, authorities said.
Reid’s wife, Landra, 69, and the couple’s daughter, Lana Barringer, 49, were taken by ambulance to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. Neither woman’s injuries appeared to be life-threatening, and the daughter was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday night, Reid aides said. Mrs. Reid was listed in serious condition, an aide said, but she was not expected to require surgery.
”Mrs. Reid has a broken nose, broken back and broken neck,” Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in a statement. ”Lana has a neck injury and facial lacerations. Both Mrs. Reid and Lana are conscious, can feel their extremities, and according to doctors their injuries are non-life threatening.”
I join Robert Stace McCain, the Lonely Conservative, and the Left Coast Rebel in wishing Senator Reid’s family well and a speedy and full recovery.
Patrick Kennedy Meltdown
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Afghanistan and Iraq, Corruption, Liberalism, Media, National News on Thu 11 Mar 2010
Patrick Kennedy gets frothy at the mouth because he thinks the media are spending too much time covering the whole Massa Mess and not enough time on the war in Afghanistan.
Greg Hengler at Townhall provides the video. Robert Stacy McCain at The Other McCain also has the video, as well as some snark. So does Gregory of Yardale at Moonbattery. Read the rest of this entry »
Eric Massa Appears on Glenn Beck
Posted by The Republican Heretic in Corruption, Media, National News, National Politics on Wed 10 Mar 2010
For anyone who missed Glenn Beck’s hour-long interview with Eric Massa, trust me, you didn’t miss it. I’m not sure what Beck was hoping to gain by having Massa on, but perhaps he was looking for some actual accounts of corruption on the Hill. Instead, he got an hour of television so dismal and frustrating that even Arianna Huffington felt bad for him.
Massa did cop to groping and wrestling with male aides in a DC bachelor pad, although he claims that it was nothingmore than a birthday tickling session, and wasn’t sexual. And despite numerous attempts by Beck to get Massa to name specific incedents of corruption, Massa relied only in vagarities, telling people to “get active.” Read the rest of this entry »
