A radical Muslim agitator and propagandist known on the internet as Jihad Jane was arrested and charged with recruiting terrorists and plotting the murder of a Swedish cartoonist known for drawing the head of Mohammed on the body of a dog (Muslims regard dogs as unclean).
A Pennsylvania woman known to authorities as “JihadJane” has been charged in federal court with using the Internet to recruit jihadist fighters to carry out murders and violent attacks overseas.
The woman, Colleen R. LaRose, was charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, making false statements to a government official and attempted identity theft, according to the indictment, unsealed Monday.
Sources tell Fox News the “Swedish citizen” who “JihadJane” was allegedly looking to kill is Lars Vilks, who drew one of the controversial Prophet Muhammad cartoons. There was a series of arrests in Ireland earlier Tuesday that are reportedly connected to LaRose’s case.
Jillian Bandes at Townhall reports that LaRose was traveling to Europe in an attempt to romance Vilks, marry him, and then kill him. Creepy.
William Teach at Right Wing News takes a look at the story and makes a few observations:
A few thoughts. First, this is the type of case that does belong in civilian court, as she is an American citizen. Second, this is, at first appearance, the exact type of case that should be tried as treason, and as a capital case, which doesn’t seem to be in the works. Third, our so-called by liberals/Bush haters “domestic surveillance” works
Fourth, how soon till the Lefties rally to her side?
A trial for treason would be interesting, but it would also be a political and media nightmare.
Rick Moran at American Thinker looks into LaRose’s background a bit:
How LaRose came to terrorism is a little murky. Evidently, she had an Egyptian boyfriend/fiancee who urged her to get involved in terrorist activities. But it is unclear when she began to plot to commit terrorist acts.
The FBI had her in their sights last July for posting on a pro-jihad website. Prosecutors apparently have recordings of some of her conversations which prove that she was eager to help terrorists. It is unknown whether she is helping authorities in their investigations, although there were two arrests in Ireland related to the assassination plot.
Left Coast Rebel also comments on the story.
Morgen at Verum Serum has some details on LaRose’s web presence:
While certain news accounts bizarrely seem to suggest that she was just a woman “desperate to do something somehow to help ease the suffering of muslims”, it is clear that she was not unwittingly drawn into this affair. In fact, “Jihad Jane” has been on the radar of terrorist-watch sites such as the Jawa Report dating back to 2008 for posting pro-terrorist videos and comments on YouTube.
I did a little digging of my own and discovered a radical Islamic web forum that “Fatima LaRose” posted extensively on last year in the months leading up to her arrest. In fact, given that this web site seems to have been only very recently taken offline, and the provocative nature of LaRose’s postings, this site could very well have been a factor in bringing LaRose to the attention of the authorities.
One of the most in depth accounts of LaRose can be found at the Jawa Report, which has been monitoring Jihad Jane for some time. The account there is well worth following, as they have a lot of info on her activities and history.
You may remember that we’ve had a long, er, “relationship” with Jihad Jane. To be honest, Colleen seemed more of a loser and a nut than someone who would actually be involved in worldwide jihad. But I suppose that since I am constantly reminding people that “nut” and “jihadi” are not mutually exclusive terms that perhaps I should have heeded my own cautionary warnings?
Howie used to have fun here behind the scenes digging up old pictures of her wearing slutty outfits (not good, trust me) and boozing it up with her red neck buddies (before she took the veil). [You still have that pic Howie? Update: See pics below]
Anyway, good riddance Colleen. Watch out for the corn hole. I hear that Colleen is the first American woman since 9/11 to be indicted on terrorism related charges. Can any one verify that? [UPDATE: This is hitting the MSM now. This Fox News report says Colleen is the only American woman other than terror lawyer Lynn Stewart to be charged in the GWOT. And Stewart's crimes were nowhere near as bad as Celleen's. Thanks to he-who-may-be-testifying-at-Colleen's-trial-and-therefore-will-remain-nameless-here.]
And congrats to the Zionist Intertube Spies who detected Colleen’s scheme to raise money for terrorist groups through her twitter account. You know who I’m talking about.
The Left wants us to believe that terrorism is no longer a problem. This is obviously not the case. And while it is true that the vast majority of Muslims in the world are not, in fact, terrorists, there seems to be plenty who have no problem in using their religion to justify the murder or oppression of other people.
Update: Michelle Malkin has the scoop on just who helped turn Juhad Jane in. Or, more acurately, she knows who does: the folks at the Jawa Report. And while the whistleblower wishes to remain anonymous for know, Jawa Report carries a first-hand account.
[By the time] I came to know Colleen, she had already become radicalized. Due to her radical postings in support of Osama Bin Laden claiming him as her Sheik and idolizing 9/11 coupled with our internet encounters, I soon became friends with the group that was tracking internet terrorism – YoutubeSmackDown. We started sharing information since Colleen became their main source for finding terrorist videos on youtube since she was the main source for favoriting them.
When she finally made an account which she actively solicited funds for the Pakistan Mujaheddin, which at this point I knew she had acquired the contacts for, I knew she had become a real threat for our safety and had officially violated U.S. Federal Law. It was time to report her. This being in July 2009 I formally called the FBI in Philadelphia to report her.
The Jawa Report also mentions its involvement with the YouTube Smackdown Corps, a group of individuals that made it a prerogative to flag jihadist videos on YouTube and have them removed. Apparently the Smackdown Corps was instrumental in helping to catalogue and track Jihad Jane’s activity, and invlvement with them helped encourage the whistleblower to turn her in. Kudos to all the folks at the Jawa Report.
